Azelaic Acid Cleanse and Soothe Face Wash with powerful actives that work thoroughly and gently.
Azelaic Acid: Effective and can be used long-term without irritation. 7 reasons to use it:
- Anti-inflammatory properties: Reduces redness and inflammation often associated with acne.
- Antibacterial: It helps kill acne-causing bacteria and creates an uncomfortable environment for any bacteria planning to return.
- Exfoliation and sebum regulation: It promotes gentle exfoliation, unclogging pores, prevents the formation of comedones and can control oiliness.
- Reduction of hyperpigmentation: It is used to fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and dark spots.

Niacinamide: Possibly the Beyoncé of skin care ingredients: it’s great, will perform wherever you put it, and often exceeds even the highest expectations! It benefits acne and rosacea-prone skin due to its anti-inflammatory and sebum-regulating properties. It helps reduce inflammation, minimise pore size, and regulate oil-production. When used with azelaic acid the efficacy is enhanced.
Sulphur: Sulphur is a traditional remedy for skin inflammation and acne due to its antimicrobial and keratolytic properties. With all the current fears about benzoyl peroxide is has seen a resurgence in popularity. It can help to reduce excess oil production and kill acne-causing bacteria.
Urea: Is another favourite here, under-used in my opinion and very effective. It helps to hydrate skin, improve the skin's barrier function, reduce moisture-loss and enhance penetration of other ingredients. It provides gentle exfoliation and can even prevent breakouts.
Directions: Use to wash face, neck and décolletage both morning and at night. Use before applying serums, elixirs or creams.
Only a small, 5ml amount is required as this is a concentrated formulation face-wash.
Do not use if allergic to any of the ingredients. First do a patch test on inner arm, if concerned. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. (See ingredients list below).
Face washes for inflamed or acne-prone skin have until recently, commonly contained benzoyl peroxide (BP). It works as an antiseptic, for acne. However… there is something of a hoo-ha brewing just now. An independent lab in Connecticut has raised the alarm regarding the safety of BP in skincare claiming to have found ‘substantial safety concerns’. They recently wrote to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ask for the recall of acne products containing it, because they had found very high levels of the carcinogen benzene forming in both prescription and OTC products. They claim it degrades and then can decompose into benzene, which has links to certain cancers. Not everyone is happy with this lab’s methods and some have claimed that more "real-world" data is needed. So…this will continue and we’ll all watch with interest. In the meantime, our face wash has a bundle of effective ingredients for skin in need of calming and none of them are benzoyl peroxide.
Packaging
All products are packed in our glass bottles or PET plastic. We do not use ingredients that have been tested on animals during manufacture. Ingredients, including ceramides and peptides are not animal-derived. We use sustainable crops and indigenous plants where possible. We pack products with our own, locally grown lavender in bags instead of plastic bubble wrap.
